The Tribune Company is close to picking the winning bid for the Chicago Cubs. They have been reviewing three separate bids since early December. All ownership changes of any major league team is not supposed to be done during the season. There are ways around that like when the Tribune Company was sold during the season, and because it was a parent company Major league Baseball did not approve it. Major League baseball did approve the CEO in Crane Kenney, so the new ownership of the tribune company could not change that without the approval of MLB. They have three months to pick an owner and then finalize the details by opening day of the 2009 season.
It will be interesting to see who the new owner is and what changes they may make. Will they keep the payroll the same or increase it? Will they leave the same management from Crane Kenney to Jim Hendry to run things or will they bring in their own people. That will be the interesting part in the whole transaction.
