The Riskiest free agents

Today I read a good article in sports illustrated about the Riskiest free agents. Number one on the list in Chicago Cub Rich Harden who looks to be leaving as a free agent. He is very injury prone and a big risk. The reason why the Cubs are letting him go. Even though he may have great stuff.

  1. I'm telling ya, the cubs need to resign him for the $7M it will cost. Best 140 IP investment they can make. Sign Mike Gonzalez/Billy Wagner, Rafael Soriano and Harden for $20M combined. Keep bradley. Team is ok

  2. I don't like Harden as a SP. He is not dependable for the rotation and did not make it past 5 or 6 innings much last year. We need someone who is healthy and can go relatively deep into games. He has great stuff and I love watching him when he is on, but I think we could get a better fit for the team with the money it would take.

I would like to see them sign Mike Gonzalez/Billy Wagner. I like those options much better than Grabow! They are going after him, but I hope they don't.

  3. What do you not like about Harden's sick Fastball/Changeup combo? Sure, he's a 6 IP pitcher, but thats more innings than Valverde will give you. He's a great asset and undervalued.

  4. I would be fine with Harden in another role with the Cubs. He could be a good closer or reliever going a few innings at a time. We need to be able to count on our starting pitchers to be dependable and make most of their starts and go relatively deep into games. Barley being able to go 5 innings is not what we need out of our starting pitchers. I like Harden's stuff and he can be great for 3-4 innings, but after that.....................he goes down hill.
