So I was doing some payroll analysis on Cot's Contracts and while looking at the Atlanta Braves, I stumbled across the bizarre contract of catcher Brian McCann. In 2007, McCann signed a 6 year/$26.8 million dollar deal covering the 2007-2012 seasons with a $12 club option for 2013. The final guaranteed year of the contract, 2012 ($8.5 million), however, becomes a "club option" rather than a guaranteed year if, and I quote Cot's here, "McCann fails to win specified awards 2007-2011."
Weird right? Especially since "McCann may earn additional $3M in 2012 based on Gold Gloves, Silver Sluggers & All-Star selections in 2007-11."
