Sox Sign Mark Kotsay

The White Sox had three free agents in Mark Kotsay, Scott Podsednik, and Jermaine Dye. They have just signed Mark Kotsay to a one-year $1.5 million contract. Kotsay started last season with the Red Sox and came over in the Brian Anderson trade. Kotsay was struggling at the time with the RedSox and needed a change of scenery. He played very well for the White sox batting .292, with three homers, and 18 RBIs in 40 games for the White Sox. Kotsay seemed to form a bond with the team last year in those 40 games. He provided the team with a lot of versatility because he can play all three outfield spots, first base, and of course DH.

Kotsay has played for 13 years with a career average of .281 with 113 home runs. He used to be an above average centerfielder when he was younger. Since the start of the 1998 season he ranks third among all Major League outfielders with 114 assists. He trails Bobby Abreu (121) and Vladimir Guerrero (115). He is a great role player for this team because of his defense, speed, left handed bat, and flexibility. His lifetime average as a pinch-hitter is .342. If an outfielder or first basemen goes down he will be an adequate fill in. This is a minor move for the White Sox……………but a big move for the team.

  1. Kinda surprised they let Jermaine Dye go. Either he goes to a contender or the Sox sign him at a reduced cost
