Our Pick'em League Keeps on Living

A few years ago we started picking the winner of each football game on this very site Game Of Inches. We started doing this before there were other websites that allowed us to do more of an automated system than manually tracking each game by hand like we did on the blog. So we moved to do this format and with that, stopped posting updates on the blog. So we will be posting an update mid season (now) and then at the end of the season so you can see how the three of us did in Adam Kaplan, TBO, and myself (Cubsfan4evr).

This year we added a new wrinkle compared to how we have played for the last several seasons. Were playing against the spread for the first time. This was Adam's idea and TBO has embraced it. To put it simply, I am still adjusting and like the old style. I like picking games straight up and none of this fancy stuff.

With Ten weeks in the books this is how the standing look:

TBO and myself are tied for first with Adam slightly behind us.  Superdup is also known as TBO.

I should point out in that in week six I had a really bad week and couldn't seem to pick a game correct against the spread.

Also, TBO forgot to fill out most of his picks last week for week Ten. He only filled out two picks (Thursday night and Sunday) and got both correct.

Even with Cubsfan4evr bad week in week six and TBO bad week in week 10 because he forgot to fill out most of his picks were hanging in there. We will have a final update after the season with how we did.

This was a tough week because I am not sure which teams will roll over and which ones will give it their all. There are a few matchups that the team has clinched a playoff berth like New England, but the team there playing Buffalo isn’t that good. Even if New England did rest some players, they still may be able to beat Buffalo. This is the final week of football so after the last game we will see who won the Game Of Inches Pigskin Pick 'Em for 2009.

Fantasy Football League-The Playoffs

Third Place Game Recap
We had the two losers from the two semi-final matchups last week playing for third place this week. It was Sexy Rexy vs. Eagles! The winner was Eagles! 117 to 92. So Eagles! locked up third place overall in the league.

The Championship Game Recap
We had The 'Bright' One vs. Good Question in the championship game. As we said last week, the key for The 'Bright' One to make it into the playoffs and to the championship game was the play of his three receivers of Andre Johnson, Miles Austin, and Brandon Marshall. Andre Johnson had a solid game for 13 points. Miles Austin had 8 points, and Brandon Marshall had 3 pitiful points. Without good performances from his three receivers it was an uphill battle. He made it close because of: Philip Rivers with 22, Jerome Harrison with 18, England Defense with 10 and Rashard Mendenhall with 7.

His opponent Good Question was led by Adrian Peterson with 23, Matt Schaub 21, Antonio Gates 13, Pierre Thomas 12, Greg Jennings 11, and Matt Prater with 10. Good Question only had one standout in Peterson, but had good solid play from a few different players and was able to win.

So the winner for this year’s Game Of Inches Fantasy Football League was Good Question winning 98 to 89 over The ‘Bright’ One. Congratulations to Good Question!

The Playoffs- Semifinal (Round Two) Recap
Last Week we had Sexy Rexy vs. Good Question play in one of the two semifinal matchups. The Good Question was the number one seed and he beat Sexy Rexy 104 to 87Sexy Rexy was let down by Drew Brees who only got him 11 points, Vernon Davis (who leads the league in touchdowns) had 4 points, Ryan Longwell only had 1 point, and Seattle’s defense got him two whole points. He did have big days from Vincent Jackson with 22 points, Chad Ochocinco 15 points, Laurence Maroney 14 points, and Frank Gore 11 points. The Good Question was lead by Matt Schaub who had 18 points, Greg Jennings 17 points, Adrian Peterson 16 points, Ricky Williams 14 points, and his kicker Matt Prater 15 points! The Good Questiions will compete in the Finals next week.

In the other semifinal matchup we had The 'Bright' One playing Eagles!. The 'Bright' One who barely got into the playoffs squashed Eagles! 130 to 77. The 'Bright' One’s team seemed to kick it into high gear the final week or two of the regular season and into the first two weeks of the playoffs. The 'Bright' One was won by great performances from his three receivers in Brandon Marshall with 13 points and both Miles Austin and Andre Johnson with 19 points apiece. He also had performances from Philip Rivers with 26 points, Rashard Mendenhall with 16 (and Big Ben threw for over 500 yards), his kicker Rob Bironas with 10, and new England’s defense looking better got him 10. Eagles! had DeSean Jackson with 20 points, and Randy Moss with 13. Ray Rice let him down with 9 and Marques Colston did with only with 8 points.

The Playoffs- The Championship Preview
So next week in the Finals we will see The 'Bright' One vs. Good Question in the championship. Good Question had a record of 10-2-1 with 1230 points which was good for first place. The 'Bright' One was 7-6 with 1258 points for 6th place overall. The 'Bright' One barley got in with the 6th seed edging out the next team by 99 points. He has upset the past two teams he has faced in the playoffs and looks to do it one more time. As I have said The 'Bright' One has been good lately because he has been carried by his three receivers of Andre Johnson, Miles Austin, and Brandon Marshall. He also has Rashard Mendenhall and Philip Rivers who are big parts of his team. Good Question is anchored by Adrian Peterson, Ricky Williams, and Pierre Thomas. He also has Matt Schaub, Greg Jennings, and Antonio Gates who are solid. Next week we will announce the winner of the Game Of Inches football League!

Summary: Sunday night Cubsfan4evr was winning over Sexy Rexy 97 to 96. They each had two players left in Monday night’s game. Cubsfan4evr had his QB Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Sexy Rexy had his star running back in Frank Gore and TE Vernon Davis. Well if you watched that game you should know who won! Warner ended up getting one point and Fitzgerald ended up getting two points! How does a QB who plays the entire game only get one point? Cubsfan4evr had some bad luck and Sexy Rexy had a good night with Gore having a big game and getting 23 points. That was more than enough points, but Vernon Davis added nine so Sexy Rexy won 128 to 100. Now Sexy Rexy will go to the semifinals trying to upset the number one seed!

The 'Bright' One (7-6 1258pts) VS. Eagles! (7-5-1 1250pt)
Summary: The 'Bright' One was the 6th seed facing the 3rd seed and he showed him who the boss is. The 'Bright' One had Brandon Marshall score 32 points, Andre Johnson 31 points, Rob Bironas 19 points, and Buffalo’s defense of 16 points to lead a whipping of 142points to Eagles! 95. Now the The 'Bright' One also goes to the semifinals, but in the other match up, not the one Sexy Rexy is in.

Note: Both Sexy Rexy and The 'Bright' One were upset’s to win this pass week. They both managed to pull off the win though. If Sexy Rexy and The 'Bright' One win next week they will face each other in the finals! That would be a very good matchup.
