According to Cot's Contracts, the Yankees had a 2010 Opening Day payroll of $213,359,389.00, which has only increased since (the Bronx Bombers have recently acquired overpaid veterans Kerry Wood and Lance Berkman).
Even at at $213.4 million, The Yankees' 2010 payroll is higher than the GDP of two countries the Republic of Kiribati and São Tomé and Príncipe (per Wikipedia).
At least they can't buy Tonga anymore.
RIP George Steinbrenner.
