Chris Rongey Twitter War Part 1

Game Of Inches
@ We may or may not be on the phone, though
THTFantasy
@
@ You'd be as incorrect about me being in the room with someone as you are about everything else baseball related: very
Game Of Inches
@ @ name one guy with better D after 30? Andruw Jones?
Chris Rongey
@
@ Jeter got that contract because he's Jeter and he has value to NY. Nobody else was giving him that.
Chris Rongey
@
@ Defensive data is garbage. Don't bother. I'm younger than you think, brother.
Chris Rongey
@
@ @ You didn't answer my question about a couple o' dudes sitting around tweeting me. I take it I was correct
THTFantasy
@
@ I will find you data because you're too old school to use google on your own
Chris Rongey
@
@ It's absolutely common for players to improve D after playing in the bigs for a couple of years. 30 typically still a "prime" yr
THTFantasy
@
@ Derek Jeter plays SS. He even won a gold glove. Totally worth his new contract, cause SS is a prem. pos. & hes only 36! TOOLSY!
Game Of Inches
@ @ "just because a guy has a bad night, it doesn't mean he's been bad all year". he's been really bad for 2 of 3 yrs
Chris Rongey
@
@ Who says defense peaks at 23? Speed might peak at 23, but I disagree defense does.
THTFantasy
@
@ Defense peaks around 23. I forget is 30 a bigger or smaller number?
Andrew Siciliano
Lockouts affect the more than just the players:
Chris Rongey
@
@ He just turned 30 two months ago. He's unlikely that quick to completely deteriorate.
Chris Rongey
@
@ @ By the way, is there more than 1 of you sitting in a room together tweeting me at the same time? Not lame at all
THTFantasy
@ What do you mean he still has the ability of all 5? Players never age and skills don't erode. I forgot, players are machines
Chris Rongey
@
@ It was great talking to you. I'm bored. Goodnight. You've got fascinating blogging to do anyway.
Game Of Inches
@ @ Derrek Lee still has the abilities of all 5. Thats a Kenny Williams deadline deal if i ever saw one
The Associated Press
Afghan official: Afghan Army officer fires on foreign troops after argument; gunman killed. - VW
THTFantasy
@ 5 tools: Fielding, Arm, Speed, AVG, and Power? fielding declining, poor baserunning, AVG is useless, & his Power is eh
Chris Rongey
@
@ You know what the 5 tools are, right? Though he's off to a slow start, he still has the abilities of all 5
Chris Rongey
@
@ Try talking to some scouts or player development pros. Players with better skill sets usually play the tougher positions (CF/SS)
THTFantasy
@
@ And Rios is no longer a 5 tool CF
THTFantasy
@
@ Says who? You keep saying this stuff as though it were fact, but cmon. SS is harder than CF.
Chris Rongey
@
@ And he's still a better baseball player than Nix.
Chris Rongey
@
@ A 5-tool CF is not nearly as easy to find as one that plays 2B. In fact, guys with 5-tools more likely in SS/CF than at 2B
THTFantasy
@ just so we don't lose sign of the point, Alex Rios' wRC+ on the sox by month is still 44, 38, 118, 196, 99, 86, 89, 78, 31
THTFantasy
@
@ 2b/3b/cf require different skills, but there's a reason their relative fielding difficulty adjustments are all +2.5
THTFantasy
@
Equally "premium" positions buddy @ That has what to do with what? Hopefully youre not suggesting CFs and 2Bs are of equal value
THTFantasy
@
I do the best I can on the fly before you hang up on me for being right @ Then frame your arguments better.
Chris Rongey
@
@ That has what to do with what? Hopefully you're not suggesting CF's and 2B's are of equal value
THTFantasy
@
@ You know, Cuddyer plays second. Does he deserve $12 million a year?
Chris Rongey
@
@ You won't win an intelligence battle with me, dude. I don't talk about the virtues of "grindiness". Take your strawman elsewhere
Chris Rongey
@
@ Then frame your arguments better. You were quite clear in the past that you just think Nix is better.
THTFantasy
@
If I took the train, you'd still be on the radio, polluting feeble minds with false claims of grindiness per 9 @ Take the train
THTFantasy
@
@ I'll concede I phrased the arg as Nix>Rios @ the time, but I meant to make it as a marginal arg. Ive repeated this to you often
THTFantasy
@
@ Well I never said I was "more significant" than you, but can't say you've contributed more than nonsense.
Chris Rongey
@ Take the train.
Chris Rongey
@
@ Your original (stupid) argument: Nix > Rios as a baseball player. It was wrong then and it's wrong now. Have a great night.
THTFantasy
@
@ The Sox have no farm system, bloated contracts for aging veterans. One guy gets injured, ineffective, no flexibility to fix
Chris Rongey
@
@ @ For guys so much more "significant" than I am, you sure spend a awful lot of time trying to prove me wrong
THTFantasy
@
@ You can't deal in absolutes. This is lesson one of economics. It's about marginal production per dollar.
Chris Rongey
@
@ Keep moving the goalposts, you'll win an argument eventually.
Chris Rongey
@
@ @ That's probably funnier than any tweet Colbert's ever sent. That's tough to do. Well done.
THTFantasy
@
(2/2) @ then let's build a team of Pujols, Cano, Tulo, Z-pack, etc. Cause you know, "money aside" and all for GMs.
Game Of Inches
@ @ Our careers are far far more significant than yours. We'd just like our leisure to not include you
THTFantasy
@
(1/2) @ See, the "money aside" argument is akin to a Democrat with no concept of economy. If we want to deal in absolutes...
THTFantasy
@
@ Can you try and please quantify your claims. I know this is twitter, but facts trump vague/false statements
Chris Rongey
@
@ Just quit. You're tiresome. You love Jayson Nix, I get it. Back to work on your terrible blog that nobody cares about.
THTFantasy
@
@ Defense tends to peaks around 23, Rios doesnt walk, slightly above average power bolstered by home park.
Chris Rongey
@
@ Try again, pal.
THTFantasy
@
@ @ Nix positive fielder at 2B, premium position. Nix costs $12 million less?
Chris Rongey
@
@ You go ahead and find a GM that would rather have Nix's tools over those of Rios, money aside. Good luck.
Game Of Inches
@ I can say this, you absolutely do not appeal to any white sox fans under 35. Probably because old people love grit/team homers
Chris Rongey
@
@ "...Algorithm (that's a high-falutin' word that means what follows must be absolute truth)" -@
THTFantasy
@
@ Rios didn't do it in 2009, he only "did it" for 2 months of 2010.
THTFantasy
@ Nix has comparable or better in all but Apr/May '10
THTFantasy
@ Fairness dictates context with respect to the great Rios-Nix argument: .
Chris Rongey
@
@ He's done it well every single year, up until this April. Don't pretend he hasn't.
THTFantasy
@
@ Playing a premium position is useless if you don't do it well.
Chris Rongey
@
@ When did I ever pimp "grit"? You've got the wrong guy, son. Go back to your math homework.
Chris Rongey
@
@ People that only view everything through SABR stats are unbearable. Rios plays a premium pos. and has more tools. Better player.
Chris Rongey
@
@ And, yes, your stance is still stupid.
Chris Rongey
@
@ Your stupid argument was that Nix is a better ballplayer. Nothing like trying to use 3 weeks of data to try to prove a point.
Dean Leysen
Morning interwebs! How are you?
THTFantasy
Rios' wOBA since end of May '10 below .320
THTFantasy
Maybe I was a bit bearish on Rios mid-'09, but here are Rios' wRC by month on Sox: 44, 38, 118, 196, 99, 86, 89, 78, 31
THTFantasy
In July '09, I called Rios a fizzle. Following '10, I was criticized, but Rios only has 2 months on the Sox with a wRC of 100 or more -GROSS
