Nice job of McGwire choosing the MLB network to do his admittance interview. A channel that no one in the world actually has. Well I have it, but no one else.
Gammons Leaves ESPN

Peter Gammons has left ESPN after being there for over 20 years. He was a baseball analyst since 1988, as well as a writer for ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com for them. I am shocked to hear that he has left. Especially because he was one of the few baseball analyst's I have actually liked on ESPN in recent years. This means that my favorite analyst will now be Tim Kurkjian. He was their most creditable baseball expert and now they lost him. That means John Kruk and Tim Kurkjian will have to step it up.
Peter Gammons left ESPN for the MLB network and MLB Advanced Media. He will be an analyst for MLB network like he was for ESPN. He will be on the show "Hot Stove" which I think sounds cool. They plan to program shows around him that he comes up with. He will also be a featured writer for MLB.com. It is times like this I wish I had the MLB network because I love baseball and enjoy listening to Peter Gammons.

Finally I have arrived home and can enjoy some digital cable action, most notably the bran new MLB network, which really should have been invented years ago. One of the first things i heard made me think the network has a similar sense of humor to the GOI writers. Prior to showing the highlights to the Cardinals game today, they played a 10 second audio clip of the announcers key to the game. Here is what the Cards announcer states as the key to the game.
I'm glad MLB network isnt afraid to point out the stupidity of baseball announcers, which are the worst in all of sports and will be further documented in a future post. I'm super excited to see how this new channel will enhance the baseball watching experience.
The key to Todd Wellenmeyer is to have a low hit game. When he has a high hit game, he can't keep from giving up runs

Finally the MLB Network Has Come

For those of you who are unaware other sports exist outside of football, MLB will be debuting its own personal network new year's day properly called MLB Network. This is a tremendous idea, although i have no clue why it took MLB so long to realize this is a great idea. We're all familiar with the NFL network, although none of us actually have it, which gives us even more in depth football coverage and primetime games. The NBA network has been around for many years, and recently the NHL, golf, and even tennis have introduced their own cable channels. So baseball is a bit behind the curb, but no better time than the present.
The preview channel that i have spent watching quite a bit today promises great features and daily coverage that is very enticing to even the average fan. They promise to cover the hot stove, draft, world baseball classic, and live coverage of daily action going live from 5pm to the last pitch of the night on the west coast. This network is sure to bring the baseball fan closer to the game and players, telling the untold stories. Considering ESPN is becoming more and more of a year round NFL network itself, with its combine/draft/preseason/regular season/postseason/offseason/favre retirement coverage, it will be nice to have a network devoted exclusively to the greatest sports on earth; baseball.
The current on-air talent for the MLB network is quite below average. Harold Reynolds and Dan Plesac are decent analysts but everyone else sucks. Matt Vasgersian is one of the most annoying personalities in baseball, so if you didnt like the baseball coverage on TBS during the postseason, you wont be very impressed with the people you see on the MLB network, but i would still recommend it. It's gonna be awesome!
