Jay Mariotti Is Officially The Worst Sports Announcer In The World

Ladies and gentlemen, the competition is over. 32 men walked into the ring, only one man is left standing. That man (if you can call him one) is Jay Mariotti. It was a close vote, but someone had to win. Though Joe Morgan and Joe Buck will always be the worst sports announcers in my mind, Mariotti takes the honors tonight. His daily mumbo jumbo on Around The Horn is terrible; his sports columns are terrible; his personality is terrible. When it comes to sucking, there are few worse than ex-Sun Times writer (if you can call what he does writing) Jay Mariotti. Ozzie Guillen would surely approve of this award.

As Keith Olbermann would say, "he's the worst sports announcer, in the woooooorld."

Congratulations Jay Mariotti. You make our ears bleed harder than anyone else.

The Worst Sports Announcer In The World Competition (championship)

A mighty thank you to everyone who voted in the playoff round of The Worst Sports Announcer In The World Competition. We've grown from a meager 31 votes cast in round one to 119 for the playoffs. It was a close one, but two finalists have emerged from the thirty-two names which began it all. The Worst Sports Announcer In The World Competition (playoffs)

A loud thank you to everyone who voted in round 3 of The Worst Sports Announcer In The World Competition. We finally broke the curse of the tie carry over, though Joe Buck and Chip Caray made it a close one. In the end, we are left with four names: Morgan, Buck, Harrelson, and Mariotti. Each will duke it out in the playoffs (round 4) and only two names can move on. Who will take the inglorious crown of The Worst Sports Announcer In The World Competition? Only time will tell.

Quick side note: how did Ron Santo end up with more votes than D.J.? Yes, Santo is pretty bad, but he's nowhere near as bad as either Hawk or D.J. For proof, listen to a Sox game on the radio this season.

The voting now enters the playoffs, where you may only cast ONE vote per bracket. The top two vote-getting names from the last round (Morgan, Mariotti) will square off against the two guys with the least amount of votes (Buck, Harrelson). The Worst Sports Announcer In The World Competition (ROUND 3)

Happy New Year dear readers and thank you for voting in round 2 of The Worst Sports Announcer In The World Competition. Bracket two was clearly the challenging one this round. All four announcers (Caray, McCarver, Buck and Aikman) are truly awful and two of them (McCarver and Aikman) had to be eliminated. In a big upset, John Madden is out. That's right. Jay Mariotti and Skip Bayless each received more votes and they will move on. Finally, bracket 3 again resulted in a tie and there will be another push. Voters could not decide who was worse, DJ or Santo, but everyone agreed that Hawk Harrelson is terrible. Oddly enough, however, Jay Mariotti (not Joe Morgan or Hawk) received the most votes of anyone in round 2.

The voting now enters round 3, where you can only cast ONE vote per bracket. You can access voting for round 3 by either clicking here (sorry, but voting for round 3 has closed) or by clicking the giant blue link atop the page.
