Sports Teams Loosing Fans

This article by Yahoo sports shows 12 sports teams across the four major sports of NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL that have had the lowest atteandance from 2001 to 2010. Most of the teams have performed poorly causing their fans to loose interest in their teams.

Can you guess the 12 major league teams with the least fans?

According to this article they are:

1. Cleveland Indians
Decrease in attendance: 56.08 percent

2. Baltimore Orioles
Decrease in attendance: 44.00 percent

3. Seattle Mariners
Decrease in attendance: 40.54 percent

4. Pittsburgh Pirates
Decrease in attendance: 33.78 percent

5. Oakland Athletics
Decrease in attendance: 33.51 percent

6. Detroit Lions
Decrease in attendance: 25.18 percent

7. Arizona Diamondbacks
Decrease in attendance: 25.05 percent

8. Philadelphia 76ers
Decrease in attendance: 24.94 percent

9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Decrease in attendance: 24.78 percent

10. Indiana Pacers
Decrease in attendance: 24.32 percent

11. Columbus Blue Jackets
Decrease in attendance: 21.76 percent

12. Oakland Raiders
Decrease in attendance: 21.32 percent

Some of the teams on this list were bad for many years, but are finally on the way up like Detroit Lions, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The rest have been bad for years and may continute to be bad for years so you can't blame there fans for not spending their money on a bad product. Hopefully they will turn things around, but sadly for many of the teams on this list, they could be mediocre at best for years.

Random Football Notes

Here some random facts that are interesting in how surprising they are:

- Not only is Brandon Lloyd second in the NFL in receiving yards, he only has 2 less yards than the league leader- Reggie Wayne
- In a league that has Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson, the league rushing leader is Arian Foster. And he has over 100 more yards than second place Rashard Mendenhall.
- Run DMC hasn't sucked this year. Hell, that's surprising to me
- Mark Sanchez also doesn't suck. And I saw him play in Week One.
- Michael Vick has looked like an awesome football player
- Laughing lowers levels of stress hormones and strengthens the immune system. Six-year-olds laugh an average of 300 times a day. Adults only laugh 15 to 100 times a day. No one laughs at my jokes.
- The Indianapolis Colts have two loses. The Chicago Bears have one. The Kansas City Chiefs have none.
- Speaking of the Bears, when Jay Cutler is healthy, they actually look like they have a top offense.
- The Rays, a team that looked like the best team in the MLB regular season will probably get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
- I actually beat DME in a fantasy baseball league. Probably the first and last time this will ever happen.
- London Fletcher is consistently top five in the NFL in tackles- and the same holds true through the first four games
- A defense Seattle Seahawks player actually has some good stats- Chris Clemons has the fifth most sacks in the NFL
- I got offered Shonn Grenne in exchange for LT. And I turned it down. Even more surprising, I probably made the right decision.
- Every time you sneeze some of your brain cells die. Every time you utter the words, 'Wow Joe Morgan/ John Madden, that was very insightful' a little bit of your soul dies.
- Matt Hasselbeck has more rushing TDs than Steven Jackson, Michael Turner, Frank Gore, Mo Jo, Jonathan Stewart, Pierre Thomas, and Jamaal Charles
- If you are right handed, you will tend to chew your food on your right side. If you are left handed, you will tend to chew your food on your left side.
- Matt Forte is awful in the red zone. Oh wait, that's the exact opposite of surprising.
- Someone named "Austin" is #3 in receiving yards- and his first name is not "Miles". It's Austin Collie.

Forbes NFL's Top Five Management Teams

Forbes has ranked the NFL's Top Five Management Teams including the general manager and head coach based on the last two seasons performance and payroll. Their formula is:

"The grading system is based on the number of wins per player payroll (including
salaries, bonuses and benefits) relative to the rest of the NFL, averaged
over the 2007 and 2008 season. Postseason wins count twice as much as regular
season wins. A score of 120 means that the team achieved 20% more victories per
dollar of payroll compared with the league average."

The top five teams according to Forbes are:

1. New York Giants
2. Tennessee Titans
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
4. San Diego Chargers
5. Philadelphia Eagles

These are the teams that are getting the most wins for their buck!

Forbes NFL Team Valuations

Last week Forbes evaluated the value of each NFL franchise heading into the 2010-2011 season and showed the public how much each team is worth. I could break down each team and provide in depth analysis, but who would be kidding with me breaking down the economics of football. I just thought it was interesting to see where each NFL team was ranked and wanted to share it with you if you haven't see this story yet.

Here are the rankings according to the article by Forbes:
1 Dallas Cowboys
2 Washington Redskins
3 New England Patriots
4 New York Giants
5 Houston Texans
6 New York Jets
7 Philadelphia Eagles
8 Baltimore Ravens
9 Chicago Bears
10 Denver Broncos
11 Indianapolis Colts
12 Carolina Panthers
13 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
14 Green Bay Packers
15 Cleveland Browns
16 Miami Dolphins
17 Pittsburgh Steelers
18 Tennessee Titans
19 Seattle Seahawks
20 Kansas City Chiefs
21 New Orleans Saints
22 San Francisco 49ers
23 Arizona Cardinals
24 San Diego Chargers
25 Cincinnati Bengals
26 Atlanta Falcons
27 Detroit Lions
28 Buffalo Bills
29 St Louis Rams
30 Minnesota Vikings
31 Oakland Raiders
32 Jacksonville Jaguars

A few of the teams that stood out to me as being surprisingly high were: Washington Redskins at number 2, Houston Texans at 5, Baltimore Ravens at 8, Carolina Panthers at 12, and Cleveland Browns at 15. It was good to see these franchises so high.

Some of the teams I was surprised to be so low for the market or success of the team was Chicago Bears at 9, Green Bay Packers at 14, Pittsburgh Steelers at 17, Tennessee Titans at 18, Arizona Cardinals at 23, San Diego Chargers at 24, and the most shocking was the Minnesota Vikings at number 30! These teams I would have expected to be higher.

The Chicago Bears at number 9 had to be the most disappointing and I am not saying that as a Bears fan. Chicago is one of the biggest markets and it doesn't have two teams like New York. For these two reasons it should be higher. Thus, it should be in the top 3, or the top 5 to say the least.

Other great teams and storied franchises like the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Diego Chargers, and Minnesota Vikings I would have thought to be much higher.

If you go to the article you can click on a team and read more about the appraisal for the team.

Really Sportsnation? Really?

I know that Roethlisberger is probably a rapist and all, but you cannot be serious about having Eli Manning leading your team over Big Ben or like 15 other QB's in the NFL. Does Eli really put fear into you? Yeah, he won a super bowl, but he also had an offensive line that could have gotten Sexy Rexy into the Pro Bowl. In fact, in 6 seasons, Manning has never won a playoff game outside his super bowl year.

Playoff Predictions

The Colts Taking Heat For Protecting Players

On Sunday the Indianapolis Colts benched their starters like Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Joseph Addai, and company. They lost and their coach is taking a lot of heat for doing it from the fans and media. I know they were undefeated and everyone wants to see the perfect season, but if they would have gotten injured, especially Peyton Manning, the Fans and everyone else would have been on Jim Caldwell for not making the move.

I can see the argument for both sides. The fans at the game payed a lot of money to see their team win. Every fan wants to see their team do the impossible (it has happened twice though) and no fan wants their team to give up in a game. If this was a team that I followed and was a fan for I would be disappointed. I would be frustrated the team didn’t give it their all, play hard, and gave up a chance for the perfect season. I would be fine with it though and not boo the coach and team. I would respect that decision, because Jim Caldwell has to make it. If he went the other way and someone got injured, no would support him in that move to play them.

If a key player would have gotten injured, especially manning the season and superbowl hopes would be gone for the Colts. Football is a physical game where many players do get hurt. I can’t remember a game where a coach did play his star players after they clinched and the player got injured, but it could easily happen. On Sunday we did see the Bears loose three players in the game due to injuries. The Colts are nothing without Peyton Manning and the players Caldwell did bench to keep healthy for the playoffs. By benching Manning we did see the rookie back-up quarterback play and he isn't ready.

It is disappointing to see your team lay a egg, but sometimes you need to plan for the prize and forget the unnecessary steps to get there.

Chris Johnson Chasing History

Chris Johnson is having a great season rushing for 1,872 yards with 12 touchdowns. A few weeks ago there was talk about him breaking the single season rushing record of 2,105 yards. There is one game left for Chris Johnson and the Titians this season and he needs 128 yards to reach 2,000 and 233 yards for the single season rushing record of 2,105 yards. So it looks grim for him to break the record, but not out of the question. The Tennessee Titans play the Seattle Seahawks next week who rank 14th in the NFL in stopping the run. Chris Johnson has rushed for 228 yards in a game this season doing it against the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 8 on 24 carries. Johnson has rushed over 100 yards in 11 games this season and rushed for or over 128 yards 8 times this season. Thus, he could reach the 2,000 yards plateau or the 2,105 single season rushing record. We will have to wait and see.

Chris Johnson Greatest Season Ever?

There are many ways to judge the greatness of a running backs season. You can look at TDs, yards, carries, averages, or most importantly the offensive lines in front of the back. I like the traditional stats to judge running backs, total yards from scrimmage. Yards are yards, regardless how they are attained, and that is what I like to look at.

The greatest single season total yards from scrimmage seasons belong to Marshall Faulk(2429) in 1999, Tiki Barber(2390) in 2005, and LaDainian Tomlinson(2370) in 2003. Other great seasons in recent memory belong to Jamal Lewis, Larry Johnson, Priest Holmes, and Shawn Alexander.

No matter what anyone says, Chris Johnson is the MVP this season. No one has had more impact on his teams performance this season than Johnson. With 3 games left in the season, he's already eclipsed the 2000 yards from scrimmage mark. At 2017 yards, he is on pace to finish with 2482 yards setting the all time record. You add 13 touchdowns and 3 TD runs above 85 yards and you have your league MVP. As I mentioned earlier, no running back in the SB era has more than two 85 yard runs in their career, let alone a single season.

Bill Belichick Does Not Live In His Mothers Basement

The greatest football coach in the history of the NFL does not like stats. Cause stats dont win games, points win games. Wait, points are stats so stats do win games? I'm confused. But Bill Belichick is never confused. Anyone who thought the Patriots' success is a product of statistical analysis, you would be wrong. The hooded sweatshirt tells us how it is after being questioned about Randy Moss' questionable performance.

"Everybody can't have high stats every week," he told the Web site. "It's impossible. We can always pick out somebody and say, 'What happened to them?'..."Stats are for losers[who live in their mother's basement]," Belichick said. "The final score is for winners."

When you have the intangibles of Tom Brady on your team, who needs numbers. Joe Girardi doesnt need numbers. It's Derek Jeter's perpetuate clapping in the dugout that wins games. Obviously this website is a waste of time. It's not like we have won any championships with our number crunching. Looks like there wont be a 2nd anniversary for Game of Inches. Boo hoo : (

My Collapse In The Eliminator Challenge

The 'Bright' One created a football Eliminator league for all GOI contributors and followers. The goal of the league is to pick one team that will win every week. You can only pick a team once during the season. Most of, if not everyone in the league stopped caring about this league weeks ago when they lost. For the first 12 weeks of the season I somehow kept winning. I had a few close games that came down to the end, and a few last minutes decisions, but I did not lose a game for the first 12 weeks of this NFL season, until week 13. A few weeks into the season I mapped out a tentative schedule of the team I would take every week. This way I would have an idea and not get trapped one week. For week 12 I was supposed to take the Chicago Bears. The bears have been playing so bad this season (they should have only won 2 games)so I got worried about taking them for this week. I have not planned to use the Pittsburgh Steelers this season, so I changed my pick around 1:00am Sunday morning to take the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Oakland Raiders at home. Well, that turned out to be a bad decision with the Pittsburgh Steelers loosing and saying goodbye to their season like I did with my Eliminator Challenge season………………………………………..
Here were the teams I took every week:
Week One: New Orleans over the Detroit Lions
Week Two: Washington Redskins over the St. Louis Rams
Week Three: Baltimore Ravens over the Cleveland Browns
Week Four: San Francisco 49ers over the St. Louis Rams
Week Five: Minnesota Vikings over the St. Louis Rams
Week six: Jacksonville Jaguars over the St. Louis Rams-They won by a field goal.
Week Seven: Green Bay Packers over the Cleveland Browns
Week Eight: San Diego Chargers over the Oakland Raiders
Week Nine: Atlanta Falcons over the Washington Redskins.
Week Ten: Miami Dolphins over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week Eleven: Dallas Cowboys over the Washington Redskins
Week Twelve: Cincinnati Bengals over the Cleveland Browns
Week Thirteen: Pittsburgh Steelers over the Oakland Raiders-Which did not happen and I lost.

I have a 92.4 percent in this league. I guess I will have to try again next year.

I can't believe what I just heard...

I was peacefully watching the Rams/Vikings game on Fox when I heard the last thing I would ever expect to hear from a color commentator. After a short run by one of the Rams running backs, not that I bother to know any of their names(it wasnt Jackson), Charles Davis, the game analyst, chose the absolute worst analogy to describe the scrub RB fighting for extra yards.
Just like Walter Payton, he does not die easily!!!
God I wish I had my tivo set to the game so I could post the video for evidence, but believe me it happened. He may have been referring to Sweatness' toughness on the football field, constantly fighting for extra yards and running over people, but he also died a horrible death from kidney disease. No, I guess he didnt die easily, but still have some decency
