this may be the teams we drafted but these are definitely are not the teams that we'll start with on opening day, mainly because I HAD TO draft a 3B in tn last round because apparently Garrett Atkins doesn't count as a third baseman, only a first baseman

Who has the best guy at every position?

C: Normally, the bright one would have the edge here -- no question about it -- but Joe Mauer's injury concerns (lower back, hip) could not only limit his games played, but sheer output. Thus, I'd have to say its a 3 way tie between Rexy, Bright One and myself. Napoli is the team's DH as of now (meaning more HRs, RBI), Ianetta is going to be this year's Geovany Soto and Mauer is still Mauer, even if he puts up his 2007 numbers again.

1B: Me. Sorry Bright One, but Votto's 30 HR, 12 SB, 300 AVG, 100 RBI potential eclipses the aging Venezuelan.

2B: SexyRexy. Ian Kinsler is at worse the second best 2B in baseball and with hip problems looming for the philly two bagger, the risk is less than that associated with Utley.

3B: Cubsfan4ever. Miguel Cabrera is a fucking beast. I expect a strong return to form this year.

SS: Me. HanRam is not only the best SS, but the MVP of fantasy baseball.

OF1: Bright One, with Sizemore
OF2: Me, with ManRam
OF3: SexyRexy, with Werth

UTIL: Bright One, because I expect Ortiz's 2008 to be the outlier in his late budding career

SP1: Me, with Haren. CC is fucking awesome, but the high PAP points (the difference in PAP between CC and the next guy is HUGE), the 513 IP between two seasons (not including playoffs) and high volume of consecutive complete games on short rest late last season make CC to risky when Haren has put up 216+ innings for each of the past 4 years and comparable numbers over that period of time.

SP2: Tie between Sexy and myself. Beckett has huge potential when healthy, as does Liriano. Becketts on the better team (more W), but Liriano's got better stuff (more Ks). We'll see who is more effective come the all-star break.

SP3: Me, with Vasquez. I think Javvy will be a top 10 SP this year. Kazmir's got great stuff, but is always injured.

RP1: Sexy Rexy, with Mo Rivers. However, I don't expect 40ish saves again from him with a boosted offense/pitching staff.

RP2: me, with Jose Valverde. He's just that good.

P1: Me, with Erik Bedard. If Bedard stays healthy, we all know why I win this one. If not, Kevin Slowey's pretty good too.

P2: Me, with Gallardo. He's not a health risk.

P3: Me, with Jonathan Sanchez. A huge breakout candidate for 2009.

P4: tie between Bright One and myself with Morrow and Jimenez. Both are unproven and have great potential. Despite his groundball tendencies, Jimenez plays in HR friendly Coors for the defensively challenged Rockies.

1) Seriously, how much is this just based off of people's first round pick? Kinsler, Miggy, Hanley, and Sizemore were each our first round picks
2) My Util is either Milton Bradley or Elijah Dukes, not Carlos Pena. Bradley, when healthy is just an absolute beast and lead the AL last year in OPS. He has a higher batting average than Ortiz and is more well rounded than Ortiz. Or I can choose from/ will play when Bradley gets injured Elijah Dukes. The only reason Dukes was ranked so low is because of his lack of playing time in the past. This year, with significant playing time, he can be top ten in OF OPS, go at least 15/15 (25/25 according to Matthew Berry), and have a high BA. I give the edge to ME!
3) I also say Ellsbury is better than ManRam just for the fact that SB are so valuable in fantasy. Yes, Manny is a pure beast, but as you Eckstein are finding out, SB are extremely hard to come by. Ellsbury will be top 10, if not top 5, in SB and will post a shit ton of runs (he's the lead off hitter) and a high BA. I say Ellsbury is better than Manny for the shear value of swiped bags. You can get lots o' dingers lots o' places, not true with SB
4) As The Bright One has stated in a previous post "Let's not start declaring people on the DL before the season starts" (I'm paraphrasing). CC has clear potential to be better than Haren.
5) When John Smoltz gets healthy, we'll see who has the better P4 pitcher and below! I'll take half a season of dominance over a whole season of average-ness.
6) I agree Vazquez will be better than Kazmir but realistically the gap between the two isn't that large

Overall though, this whole list is futile because (as past posts of Red Sox v Yankees v Rays what have you have shown), this isn't about individual talent at each position but the team as whole. I think I have the best offense because I picked players to excel at all FIVE categories and Eckstein has the best pitching but I do think mine isn't too far behind.

Also, I think it's kind of funny that Cubsfan4evr1 only had his first round pick on this list haha!

Also, for just "P", it's kind of unfair to judge because I have a strategy of two CL P along with two CL RP. You're comparing apples and oranges between starters and closers. My strategy is to have four closers and dominant starters. I think I have quality starters and pure quantity for relievers (Plus Mo). I think this will create a nice balance to help me win overall.

Again, further proof that you can't compare individual players but you gots to do it as a whole team

As I've said, it's not abut individual players but about collaborative effort. And because I have stats on every single player and because the new excel is fucking awesome, here's a list of projected stats of our offensive players by BA, SB, HR, and OPS (I think this could be highly correlated to R and RBI)*

Sexy Rexy: .287/ 123 SB/ 153 HR/ .855 OPS

Eckstein: .278/ 80 SB/ 193 HR/ .858 OPS

Bright One: .278/ 115 SB/ 187 HR/ .835 OPS

Cubsfan4evr1: .276/ 121 SB/ 168 HR/ .803

So if you are the top of a category I have you 4 points and 1 point for being last (8, 6, 4, and 2 for OPS but it's correlated to 2 categories). Here's how the points turn out:

t-1) Eckstein: 15 pts
t-1) Sexy Rexy: 15 pts
3) The Bright One: 12 pts
4) Cubsfan4evr1: 8 pts

By technicality Eckstein has like a 1,000th less of a BA than Bright One so for BA, I'm first, Bright One is 2nd, and Eckstein is 3rd.

*stats according to BP
