Ohlendorf is a starting pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, a Princeton grad, and probably the smartest player in baseball. Tim Kurkjian actually did something productive (for once) and wrote a great piece about Ohlendorf and his senior thesis about signing bonuses and the draft. This article was actually extremely informative and the conclusion Ohlendorf found: on average, a player brought into the major leagues and given a basic signing bonus was worth. Just go read the actual article.
